It helps that pretty much everyone here is agreeable. Some are quiet, but I haven't really spoken to anyone who is purposefully mean. Just...some strange people, that's all.

Well...there's this one guy, I don't know if you've seen him yet or not. He's got red hair and an eyepatch and it seems really mysterious!

[clutches his chest dramatically, while also laughing,]

I'm not that mysterious, am I? And here I thought I was being friendly.

You can be friendly and mysterious at the same time! It's better than the reputation Skalds like us usually get anyway.

[Tuuri out here assuming Lavi has the same job as her.]

You mentioned that before -- skald means... poet? What kind of reputation do they get?

[polyglotti]

Not quite a poet, or at least I've never written poetry. The work Skalds do is more about preserving knowledge and making sure the Old World isn't lost to time. Most of the time it's just transcribing old books that are close to crumbling away, but sometimes we get to go out and record information ourselves!

[It's clear which part of the job Tuuri likes more.]

But everyone calls us nerds who get buried in books too much. It's not anywhere close to 'cool' or 'mysterious'.

Sounds pretty cool to me. History's a part of us all, even if lots of people don't think that way. And not just anyone can preserve it.

Right? It takes someone with a careful eye and good attention to detail, to make sure nothing is missed.

[She is absolutely a nerd, but she likes Lavi more now because he's agreeing with her.]

I figured 'Bookman' was another name for Skald, when I saw your page on the little rectangle device.

[he smiles at that, he figured tuuri would definitely have read his profile. Because he absolutely would have to. Is it too soon to think that they're similar? Probably, and yet]

It's similar.

"The Bookman are a clan dedicated to recording history in its truest form. For that purpose, the Bookman is sent to observe the parts hidden from the rest of the world." We preserve history from books too, though we also have to see it with our own eyes.

That sounds so much more fun than just copying books down. I wasn't able to go out into the world until just recently. I've been stuck at desks for most of my working life!

Doesn't fit at all -- you with a desk job. M'glad you get to see it all with your own eyes. The good, and even the bad.

I am too. I'm glad I took those steps to go beyond the safe areas and see the world for myself. I just wish...

[She trails off there, and she glances away with a gaze that looks a little on the regretful side.]

I just wish I'd had more time to enjoy it.

[his merry expression softens a little, and he looks away too -- as if trying to give Tuuri privacy,]

Yeah... Me too.

[...then he leans to the side, knocking her shoulder with his,]

That's history for ya. No matter how much we want to be a part of it -- it'll eventually move on, with or without us.

I suppose it hasn't moved on entirely, since we're all here now. It's just a different history to record, yeah?

I'm sure she will. She puffs up in fear every time she smells one.

Hopefully they won't be a danger to us, so we won't have to rely on Kitty to sense danger.

You think? It would be nice to get to know them, they don't seem like bad people. ...er, demons.

They're downright friendly compared to some of us.

They do have to be hosts, after all.
