Well, I'm a mage now, but...

Growing up, I had no talent for magic whatsoever. I'm the descendant of a world-famous sage, a man who mastered all of the major schools of magic... It was frustrating, to say the least.

My grandma was one of the first mages born after the Rash. She grew up in the world we have now, and she's always been a leader in our community. Every fall she would go out and exterminate nearby trolls to keep our village safe. My brother and my cousin carried on in her footsteps, since they inherited her magic. But I'm just...normal, I guess.

[She would have loved to go out training with Grandma like the others got to.]

What I'm saying is, I totally get how you feel. How did you end up becoming a mage though, if you weren't born with the talent?

[A grandma who fights trolls. That's badass.

There's an uncomfortable pause at the next question, however.]

[She pauses, and she glances away.]

If you don't want to explain, you don't have to. But I'll listen if you want to talk about it.

[He thinks... and nods a little.]

Yeah... I will. But first, we'd better focus on tomorrow.
