Oh yes, they are! But it was winter before I came here, and the skies have been overcast for months. Nothing compares to still air on a summer night while you watch the stars above.
Also, I was in Denmark, so it's a bit further away from home.
Street lights, skyscrapers, housing. We're a very digital society these days, too. You'd have to go out far, perhaps somewhere like Tama, in order to see any stars in the sky.
I suppose 'rare for my area' is more accurate. Finland is...kind of backwater by most standards. The island I grew up on didn't have any at all, nor did it have indoor plumbing. The military base had electricity but it was reserved for important areas, like the defensive walls. Personal quarters just had lamps.
[Tuuri looks up at the planetarium ceiling, seeing the countless stars projected up there.]
The constellations look different, but it's the same idea of glowing stars. Though this is more what it looks like on nights with a visible moon. During the full moon, when it gets really dark, you can see even more stars than this. They're so numerous it looks almost like someone spilled milk all over the sky.
That really does sound pretty. The kinds of things we take for granted, hm?
[ Alas, human nature. Such pretty things hidden right above their heads all along. ]
Do you know any constellations? I'm not familiar at all, beyond the basic twelve for the Zodiac, and that's really more just because there's always a column in girl magazines.
There's a few I know, we use them to track the seasons and trips.
[She will go looking for them in the stars above them, and she will explain the ones she recognizes. I, Maple, know nothing about stars, so pretend there is actual content here.]
People don't kill other people in my world. Not like that.
[YEAH. YEAH...]
There's only about 250,000 people left in the entire world. Most of the people spend their time either growing food or fighting off Trolls. I'm sure there's still murder every now and then, but it just...it's so rare that you barely ever hear of it.
People kill others for pettier reasons, in mine. Every day, people disappear -- and it's not even just ghouls killing humans, or humans killing ghouls.
But it's hardly a fair comparison -- doing it out in the streets is different from doing it like a show for a kangaroo court.
And it wasn't even for that good of a reason either. If it was self-defense, or Hunter was infected, then I could possibly see why. But this is just...it feels pointless. He didn't have to kill Hunter over limited spots at the party.
We're never not going to be on a time limit, unfortunately. One week down... seven left to go. When a supposed return to life is on the line, it'll be even shorter -- the sooner one can feel a sense of security, the sooner one will probably try and take it.
But even thinning down our numbers wouldn't guarantee a spot. If you can't hold your liquor, you won't get in. It would be smarter to work on building up your alcohol tolerance.
[The funny thing about the Finnish language is that things like friendship and love are implied through word choice and they very rarely make declarations of actual feelings. Tuuri thinks she is being obvious about seeing Eto as a friend when it's not actually that obvious at all.]
I'll try to find people who want to work together. I can't do this on my own, and I'm sure there's others who will think that as well. People are stronger when they work together.
[That may mean making a few really good friends and protecting them fiercely though.]
How very noble of you. You're right, of course. Nobody is strong enough to work completely alone -- not one.
[ However, if there's an opposition who instead bands together to wipe out enough to guarantee their own placements... well, she doesn't say anything about it. ]
For now, though, I think some rest would be well-deserved.
Something good to eat would be nice. The food places here were interesting at first, but I'm starting to get tired of them. I'm even starting to miss mutton.
Mutton is a luxury in Japan, did you know? We're not one to eat much sheep. Or beef, for that matter. Fresh meat would be amazing, though -- I'm not a big eater, but I'd still rather that than junk food all the time.
[ She definitely hasn't been eating properly, and it's because they technically don't need to eat that she's been holding back, but! Still. Hungy. ]
We might all get even crankier if this continues. Let's all try to keep a level head, shall we?
I can't imagine it being a luxury, it was one of the only livestock animals we had while I was growing up. We could get fish too but that's a little dangerous sometimes.
[The thought of getting crankier is valid though, so she nods. They need to be rested and fed and ready for whatever comes.]

So it's really a building full of stars?

Date: 2023-02-08 12:44 am (UTC)Projected stars, just to warn you -- but yes, that's right.
I had thought that in many parts of Finland, the skies were actually fairly clear at night.

Is this an accurate representation, then?

Still -- how petty, and the audacity to claim such a bold, "heartfelt" reason, and then make a mockery of a murder while at it.
