It was so stupid, I saw one of his memories and I told him not to be too hard on himself, and he asked why I cared, and I said that of course I would care about someone important to me! But that's...well.

[She. Gestures. Because the implications there are pretty obvious and she looks embarrassed as hell about the whole thing.]

He looked stunned and questioned what I meant and I ran away.

Come on, I'm sure it's not that bad. He was probably just surprised! A lot of the guys around here are, like, allergic to admitting when someone's important to them. What gives with that? Why are there so many emotionally constipated dudes?

I don't know! Shy I can deal with, but confused? It makes me wonder if I'm more attached to him than he is to me.

Let me tell you something, Tuuri. Guys are dumb. Real dumb. It probably doesn't have anything to do with him being less attached to you and everything to do with just not realizing how much you liked him.

Does it matter if it's only for a short time? If you're happy being with that person, then make all the memories you can with them while you're able to. Things don't have to last forever for them to be important.

Not necessarily. Would you really like him if he was the type to get all weird about it if you liked him? If anything, I bet he'd be flattered that someone so cute and nice felt that way about him, even if he didn't feel the same way.

Just talk to him about it! I'm sure it'll be fine.

I never had to deal with this before. I have an older brother, he would scare off anyone who showed too much interest in me. And it wasn't even him threatening them, he just looks scary when he's being serious.

He's very serious, all the time. He doesn't really tell any jokes or stuff like that. He smiles sometimes, but that's very rare.

[Kuranosuke saw that memory this week, so Tuuri doesn't mind sharing a bit more. He gets the context of why her world is kind of shitty.]

He had to become the guardian for both me and our cousin Lalli when he was only sixteen. I was ten and Lalli was eight back then, so we were still little enough that we needed an adult to take care of us. He...I don't think he was ready for that level of responsibility, but there was no other choice. Kids without families- especially kids who aren't immune- usually end up in not-so-great places. He grew up really fast, to protect the two of us.

It sucks it had to be that way, but I'm glad he was there for both of you.

Yeah. Sometimes he can be a little frustrating, but I'm glad he's been there for us too. I wouldn't trade him for anyone else in the world.
